We drove into the campground and the office was not at the entrance but towards the middle of the campground. Because the roads were narrow, it was difficult to get in with the rig to register. When I registered, just as when I had called, I stated again that we were in a big rig and that I had hesitations about the narrowness of the roads. The clerk assured me that we would be fine. She called over another woman, who complained that she couldn't finish her ice cream to guide us to our spot.
Lo and behold, our site was actually at the fron of the entrance, so there was no need for us to have driven in if there had been some kind if signage. The clerk got in the truck with me and guided us around the back of the campground where we actually had to turn around and go back to the front. I again spoke about my misgivings on a certain turn in the rig. The clerk assured me we would be fine "lots of big rigs come in here"
It doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened next. Yep, hubby didn't make the turn without substantial damage to one of the bay doors.
The clerk then guided us to our site and left to finish her ice cream. I looked at the site number and it didn't seem right, but this was where she put us, so Dave started hooking up. Within two minutes she was back in her truck, yelling at me that we were at the wrong site. I explained that she put us at this site and she said it didn;t matter, we needed to over over two sites. I checked the site she was trying to out us at and there was no way that we would have fit in there. I kept trying to explain to her and she just kept yelling at me that it didn't matter, we needed to move.
At this point, Dave had had enough and he yelled we were getting out of this hellhole. So I went to the office and insisted they give us our money back since they misrepresented the campground and site availability.
We got our money back and called the only other near available campground in the area, Shore Hills. They were definitely the light at the end of this dark tunnel for us.
But that's another story.
