P is for Peace
Peace is freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility.
To me, peace is more than just being. Peace is a state of mind.
I have Fibromyalgia. Everyone's symptoms are different, but some of my symptoms include the usual pain, especially on extreme temperatures. I am also very sensitive to noise. I don't do well with a lot of noise, whether it's people, office settings, children's playgrounds, or even loud tv or music. Doesn't matter what it is - I don't function well with a lot of noise.
What that meant before we became nomads is that I had to avoid a lot of places I used to enjoy going to. Eating out now meant going in off hours, like grocery shopping. A Saturday morning at Wal-Mart? Fuhghedaboutid. I would run out, holding my hands over my ears, trying to prevent a panic attack.
Our nomadic lifestyle means that we can choose we go and where we stay. We enjoy the quiet parks that are sometimes out in the middle of nowhere. Right now, we're in the mountains of North Carolina and all I hear are the birds and the rain slowly dropping onto our roof. This is peace for me. Peace of sound means peace of mind for me.
What about you? What gives you peace of mind?
