Dave enjoyed it. He caught a walleye and two northern pikes. Somehow, I now have the fishing bug (?) and we're going out one more time on Tuesday before we leave for Bemidji.
We rented our host's small bass boat for the day and took the kids fishing. Not sure how much fun they had, although I know Sage enjoyed the sun. Dave enjoyed it. Ever since we embarked on this journey, I've always wanted to visit International Falls, mostly because when the meteorologist at home talked about how cold it was, I took solace in the fact that it was a heck of a lot colder in IF, Minnesota. So, a visit had to paid. We made that trek yesterday and found a charming village of about 8000 residents. Not sure if they were all-season residents or just summer. But this charming burg had the only grocery store within a nearly two hour radius, as well as a Menards and a Kmart. Downtown was charming and filled with flowers. There's not much more to say about it, but I'm glad I went and checked it off my bucket list. We're at Voyageurs National Park in upstate Minnesota, about as far north as you can get before Canada. We arrived yesterday and so far we've enjoyed the rugged beauty of this area. The only civilization here seems to be fishing and hunting resorts, so we're going to get in the spirit tomorrow and take a small boat out on Ash River to do some fishing. And yes, although I can't eat them, I plan to come home with more than Dave! Along the Ash River here are cabins, little RV parks , restaurant and that's about it. Here are a few pictures we took this morning on our recon drive. Cell phone coverage is non-existent and internet is not far behind. But the views more than make up for it. |
