E is for every day of my life and how I've learned to pace myself - Energy
I'm like a kid in a candy shop when we land somewhere new.  By the time we get set up, I'm ready to get out and see everything the area has to offer.  I've quickly learned that this is a great way for exhaustion to sink in.  Having fibromyalgia means that I have to pace myself or I'll end up in bed.

I've learned to tamper my excitement with a better routine.  Our first night at a new campground is set up, an easy dinner and adult beverages around the campfire.  My second day, I take care of household items, such as meal planning or grocery shopping.

Then, the excitement really kicks in.  I get to pull out my list of places to see and things to do and start planning on visits.  And I've been so fortunate already.  This summer will be a mix of quiet and exciting.  We'll see how it works for us.

D is DH, a common acronym among RVers, standing for Darling Hubby
Picture
DH - Rvers, as all groups do, have their own short hand when communication with each other.  S&B, for example, stands for Sticks and Bricks, our house, for those who have one.  MH stands for Motorhome.  One of my favorites, though, is DH.  It stands for Dear Husband, or Darling Husband, or, sometimes Darn Husband.

I have been so very fortunate in my life to be married for 30 years to my best friend.  When we decided to fulltime in our RV, people wondered how we would get along in such a small space 24 hours a day.  I'm happy to report that it's not been a problem, yet.  We enjoy being together, we enjoy sitting outside around a campfire, or riding our bikes, or seeing what this country has to offer.  We're foodies, so we like to try new regional dishes wherever we go.

Communication has greatly improved, necessarily.  We can't argue and go to our separate rooms.  We've had to learn to discuss and resolve issues before they become big ones.

What communication methods work for you and your partner?

C is for finding a way to live together in harmony, standing for COMPROMISE
Picture
People have asked how we keep our marriage of thirty years strong.  And I always answer the same way: compromise.  Choosing what's important to me and what's not that important has been the fabric of our marriage.

I compromise by cooking dishes that hubby likes and save my favorites for when he's not there.  He compromises by picking up after himself because he knows that I'm OCD and clutter drives me crazy.

Everything we do is made up of compromise.  I hate shopping with a passion.  So, now that he's retired, hubby comes with me to make it more tolerable.

Traveling is the same way.  Although I plan our routes, I take into consideration places he wants to go to.  And we plan enough time to enable both of us to sightsee.  I know that if there's anything Railroad-inspired along the way, we'll stop because hubby is fascinated with all things train.  Whereas I like the more off beat and nature -bound.  So, when making our plans while at a location, we'll factor in both.  One day for him, one day for me.

Compromise hasn't always been easy.  In our younger years, our stubbornness should have done us in.  Now we've learned that there's not much out in the world to make us want to argue.

How do you compromise in your daily life?
