It's very ironic that as much of a dedicated traveler I am, I'm terrified of flying and scared of deep water.

When flying, the take offs and landings are enough to make me hyperventilate.  But, I have to fly to get to the places I've visited.  Luckily, I've found that taking some zanax before take off is enough to calm me and allow me to fly.

My worst flight? I had two.

The flight to Beijing that took just over 16 hours.  We had a lot of wine.

My other was the flight to Egypt and back home.  I developed food poisoning right after breakfast, shortly before we landed.  I've never been so sick.  And lo and behold, the same thing happened on the way back home.  I don't even remember landing at JFK and spending the night in a hotel before flying home the next day.

Did it stop me?  Heck no!

Water has always frightened me as well.  Probably because I'm not comfortable swimming.  Ironic that I've taken seven cruises.  What they say is true.  You really can't tell you're on a boat.  Unless there's a big storm.  In that case, dramamine and prayers.

What kind of traveler are you?

I've always associated voyages with boats - and I hate them. Have flown fof over 40 years but still find flights boring if you cannot see the landscape.

I don't mind flying nor bumpy flights that much but my first flight experiences were on a Cessna when I was growing up. My dad shared a plane with other farmers so they took the kids up periodically and showed us how cool everything looked from the air.

I do sometimes get carsick / bus sick / seasick so I always have seasickness pills with me just in case when traveling those ways.
