October is here...and so is our next trip

I worried about September, knowing we would be at a standstill for the month, and hoped that we wouldn't get bored.  I worried about nothing.  The month flew by, with doctor's appointments, meetings for the War Memorial, changing things around as we got used to living in 300 sq ft. together.

But all in all, it was a great month.  There is no stress from being together.  We find things to do, either alone or with each other.  The biggest challenge for us was the constant heat.

We have good news - the house has finally sold and we'll be closing on it October 11.  The last time I walked through it, it didn't seem that we had lived here for 25 years.  The rooms echoed as I walked through and it seemed like someone else's house.  I hope the new owners live a full and happy life in it, as we did.

Yesterday, we hit the the road again for a short trip.  Right now, we're at Chantilly Farms, in Floyd, VA, at our favorite campground in the middle of nowhere.  The 22 mile drive off the interstate served to bring peace to my soul again.  The weather is absolutely perfect.  Warm days and cool nights.  No traffic, just the sound of crickets.

I spent the morning sitting in my new club chair that was Dave's gift to me for my birthday, a little early.  I absolutely love it and Sage loves laying on the Ottoman.  I'm afraid it's spoiled me for any other chair now.

No, the pretty blonde isn't me, but she loves the chair as much as I do.  And now we've ordered one for Dave.

FLOYD, VIRGINIA

We actually left the motorhome today.  We decided to try one of the local restaurants, MickeyG's, an Italian eatery located in a strip mall.  To say that we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement.  The atmosphere was great.  Outdoor seating, with ambiance courtesy of Frank Sinatra.  The menu was extensive - four pages of Italian food.  My sangria was perfect, not too sweet, not too dry.  Dave's antipasto platter was a true antipasto. It was a meal all to itself.

The rest of the meal was a little hit and miss.  My Chicken Marsala was good but not great, as was Dave's linguine Frutti Del Mare. But it was still a very nice meal.

I'd hoped to do a little window shopping after lunch - Floyd is filled with all kinds of little arts shops, but they were closed on Sunday afternoons.  It was still great to get out and see a little of the town.  My owl windchimes can wait.

Tomorrow, a trip into Roanoke to replace a few worn out necessities with the doggies.  But tonight, another campfire.

Our sense of peace and all being right with the world continues.  I asked Dave at lunch if this was going to be how life is from now on.  The smile on his face said it all.  We have no regrets or second thoughts.  We know this is what we should be doing.

Our Simple Life is good.
