Frozen and Family

After a quick flight to the frozen Tundra of Tennessee last week, my mom flew back to Florida with me for a few days to get some fun in the sun.

We took a couple of little trips, one to The Villages, the retirement community just south of Ocala.  We had lunch at the Lighthouse Point at Ft. Sumpter Landing, one of three town squares in The Villages.  Ft. Sumpter Landing has an old Key West feeling, with pastel colored buildings and a beachy vibe.

Did I mention that the Villagers love their golf carts?  They really do.  They even have their own golf cart gas station and repair garage.  I love the vibe!

We heard that Brownwood, one of the other Town Squares, was having a small Pioneer Days, so we decided to check it out.  Lots of local artisans and food.  Two of my favorite things!

Brownwood has a western theme that they carry through to the smallest detail.  We went to the movie theater on New Year's Eve, and not only did the inside of the theater look like a town out of the Old West.  Their bathrooms has wooden stall doors and a crescent moon carved out to look just like an outhouse door!  I really love their attention to detail.
On one of Mom's last nights here, we journeyed back to Mt. Dora for dinner at the Bavarian Haus and a stroll through the old part of the town.  All the lights were still up and we really enjoyed walking through some of the funkiest art shops I've ever seen.  I love Mt. Dora, although I'm still looking for the Mt. in Mt. Dora.  I think it was the bridge we went over....

It seems that you've had a fun time during your visit. I hope that you met a lot of your loved ones in your home. I also want to visit my hometown again in the future. I'm currently living far away from my home. I've decided to live on my own and be far from my family. If I ever have the time to visit my town, I'll do it in a heartbeat.
